The Charleston HBA held a Chili Cook Off at Frothy Beard Brewing on February 25, sponsored by Ameris Bank. Dominion Energy took home the award for “Best Damn Chili”. Hunter Quinn Homes won “People’s Damn Choice”, while Certainty Home Loans won for “Damn Table Décor”. The Cook Off was well attended and had lots of networking for their members.
Horry-Georgetown HBA member, Jamie McLain of Creekside Homes, hosted the NAHB/HGHBA Student Chapter from the Academy for Technology & Academics Building Construction Class at his subdivision in Conway, SC. The ATA students toured the area and learned the stages of development from the ground up to building a home as part of the HGHBA’s careers in construction efforts. Mr. McLain explained the individual layering of home construction, showed the skeletal underlying support, and intricate working electrical/plumbing/HVAC, then the polished outer finishes.
On February 5th and 6th, nearly 6,000 students invaded the Myrtle Beach Convention Center to view a plethora of career choices. One division of this large event was Architecture & Construction hosted by the Horry-Georgetown HBA. There was Building Area sections themed around the popular young adult video game “Fort Nite”, showcasing careers through interactive games to gain the students interests. The students were challenged and interested in our area giving exposure to them for future decisions.
Carla Rohal of Cregger Company and Brandon Edwards of Element Construction were able to enjoy Hoover Dam during the International Builders Show even with their duties as Directors on the NAHB Leadership Council.
